Heads up, I’m making this post because I genuinely have no idea how to look for what I want.
I really, really love video essays on YouTube that critique and assess the quality of books and other media (e.g. PatricianTV) , as well as those that explore how people have varying responses to the same media – like what James Woodall does, so a book-form of that would be really cool. I’m looking for a source that’s not just a few pages worth of reviews, but something that performs the equivalent of a literary autopsy
I’m also looking for something that dives deep into the technicalities of English
Something that fulfils either/both of these requests is fine
So far, the only thing that is similar to what I want is Mimesis – Representation of Reality, but I dislike how it analyses works originating from Latin. Something similar but analysing English-originating works or the English version of works would be preferred
