Keeping it British, I’d recommend the Laundry Files series by Charles Stross, which is a blend of SF and humorous espionage, in a Lovecraftian wrapper.
And then something from Angela Carter, like _Nights at the Circus_ or a story collection such as _Burning Your Boats_ or _The Bloody Chamber_.
Throw in some China Mieville like _The City & The City_ or _Embassytown_ for good measure.
