This is super specific but I love characters who have that 'doomed' element to them, like they're idealistic and hyper-focused on their goals/dreams but never manage to overcome the fatal weaknesses that hold them back- so the whole thing ends in disaster.
Examples include characters like Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby (never loses hope that he can win back the girl he fell in love with as a young man, but ultimately he can't overcome the class restrictions of his era and dies alone),
or Achilles from The Song of Achilles (greatest warrior of his generation, wins a glorious legacy but also loses the love of his life & dies young in battle due to his own stubbornness and pride).
No genre preferences, although I'm generally not a huge YA fan. If anybody has recommendations for this weirdly-worded request, I'd really appreciate it!
