Hi! I used to be a big reader back in middle school and have been trying to get back into it before I start college this fall. But there's an issue, I have no clue what to read because a bunch of my TBR list is what you would expect from an eighth grader. SO:

    1) I need books with characters that are not sixteen year olds, but also not 50 year old dudes. College aged protagonists please!

    2) Page turners! I love being on the edge of my seat.

    3) No romance novels. No books like Icebreaker because that's not for me. Romance in books is fine, just no straight up romance.

    4) I love spies, cowboys/girls, mystery, pirates, crime, found family, heists, "Gravity Falls-esque", sci-fi, etc. None of these are needed for me to enjoy a book, but just some ideas of what I like.

    5) I love queer and POC stories since I find myself represented, so these would be great. But again, not necessary for me to enjoy a book.

To also give an idea, the last book I read some months ago were If We Were Villains which was pretty good until the end where I LOVED it. Ender's Game was also good. And now I'm attempting to read Vicious by V. E. Schwab.

Some books I enjoyed in middle school were Scythe, Aurora Rising, Percy Jackson, The Eighth Day, Hunger Games, Masterminds, They Both Die in the End, etc.

I think you’d love Murderbot Diaries! Tons of queer rep, its scifi, found family, and plenty of comedy. It had me by the throat and I finished it all within a month because I was just that into the series. Murderbot is explicitly against the idea of dating and sex, so theres no possibility of romance. Theres seven books in the series, with two short stories and a show coming out on apple tv that has the authors approval. The first book is based around figuring out whose behind the mass murder on a research station on the other side of the planet from our protagonist, Murderbot. Spoiler: Its not Murderbot (ironically enough).
