Not looking for fiction books here (no bias against them, just in a phase where I would appreciate some knowledge heavy books). Ideally, the subject matter should be niche Or at least goes a little in depth in terms of theory or research. For example, I've enjoyed the prose and subject matter of The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir.
What I mean by beauty-in-precision prose is the kind of word craft that absolutely bangs you with its level of articulated precision. For eg, the language in Elaine Scarry's The Body in Pain was something I quite appreciated:
“Intense pain is also language-destroying:as the content of one's world disintegrates, so the content of one's language disintegrates:as the self, so that which would express and project the self is robbed of its source and subject”
Ornate prose yet precise would be cherry-on-top.
Non-fiction about history, sociology, medicine, science, psychology or any field would do. Thanks 🙂
