One of the best books I'd ever read is Billy Summers by Stephen King. It's a noir story of a hitman doing his one-last-job. I had never really been into thrillers/horror/crime but after reading it, I've certainly been more than open to explore these genres. I've been looking for novels about crime but murder mysteries take up most of the space in the genre it seems like. I gave in and tried a couple but it just didn't hit well for me.
Hence, I wanted to read another book still crime-based (haha something cool–like hitmen?? Or drug lords, or hackers. You get the gist.) whilst also including a strong narrative of the main character and/or their relationships with other characters. I absolutely loved how King brought Billy Summers to life, so much honesty and vulnerability as a character.
I'm open to other suggestions as well! With one or both aspects included, I don't mind.
