I've been keeping up with European politics more this year and recently learned about this big disparity in experience, feeling, politics of West Germany/Germans and East Germany/Germans. What books go through the history of the creation of East Germany, the difference in life on either side of the wall, as well as what life was like after the wall fell and "East Germany" ceased to exist the way it did before 1990s. I'm open to multiple books and any genre, so long as it does a good job of showing or explaining the history and really capturing what life and this time was like. I'm also interested in anything which relates how this history impacts German politics and society in the 21st century.
