I feel like I read a lot of "government bad" and "congress literally doesn't care about you". I want to read about the nuances of how the federal government works in its modern form. I already know the basics of filibusters, how bills are passed, etc. But I want to understand more the difficulty when it comes to deciding budgets, relieving debts, supporting "smaller" needs, relations with public/press, the attempt to satisfy protestors while being realistic, the influence of geopolitics in decision making and the presence of realpolitik.

I want to understand better than "one party votes one way and other won't let it pass and that's the real reason nothing ever good happens."
