Been in a reading slump for a few months and looking to load up my holds list at the library with new recs. I have a somewhat eclectic taste in fiction (or maybe I’m overthinking it) but I don’t feel like I have a specific genre I gravitate towards. Good writing is a must – especially if it’s a plot driven or fantasy/thriller book, which seems to always get lost for me there even if the story is interesting. I’m just going to list some of my 5 star fiction books below and hopefully it can give a good idea of my tastes.
Cloud Cuckoo Land — Anthony Doerr (all time favorite)
The Marriage Portrait and Hamnet — Maggie O’Farrell
The Book of Cold Cases and The Sundown Motel — Simone St. James
Firekeeper’s Daughter — Angeline Boulley
GreenWood — Michael Christie
The Bear — Andrew Krivak (all time favorite)
Piranesi — Susanna Clarke (all time favorite)
Once There Were Wolves — Charlotte McConaghy
The Vanishing Half — Brit Bennett
Anxious People — Frederik Backman
I don’t really see a common thread between these books besides maybe distinctive writing styles, mostly character driven and emotionally impactful themes? Would love to hear anyone’s recs based on this list. Thanks in advance!
