Just finished East of Eden, I’m worried it’s gonna put me in a slump because of how great it was. I was gonna read The Grapes of Wrath next, but I’ve heard it’s very good as well and I don’t think I can love any other characters right away after falling in love with the characters in East of Eden. What would you guys suggest? Classics and Sci-fi are my favorite but anything other than YA is fine.

    1. I’m going to be very bold – pick up a book that you’ve seen people say that they really enjoy but you just don’t believe you will enjoy. I seem to always be able to find books I’m not excited about but know others have really enjoyed. Not books that you absolutely know you’ll hate, but books you’re ambivalent over. It’s easier (for me personally) to do while excited about a previous read than just picking one up because there’s nothing else.

I’ll suggest Black Beauty. Classic, kind of has a younger vibe but not necessarily YA. Maybe a book you aren’t opposed to be are meh over?

Crime and Punishment is a good classic where the protagonist isn’t exactly lovely.

What about short stories? Poe and Lovecraft and… wow, drawing a blank. But short stories might be fast, easy, and not investing too much time? This is actually one of the reasons I like to pick up YA/MG books too.
