hi all! i'm looking for recs of 19th/20th century novels by female authors (and by queer female authors, but not necessary!!). one of my favorite books this year was cassandra at the wedding, but i've also really enjoyed carson mccullers's writing, zami: a new spelling of my name, and the street, by ann petry. shirley jackson (esp hangsaman) is one of my perpetual faves as well! for 19th century, i've read all the 'classics' (austen/bronte sisters), but have particularly enjoyed the morgesons, by elizabeth stoddard, and the bondwoman's narrative, by hannah crafts
i've been trying to read more 19th and 20th century lit, and have noticed how so many rec lists skew very male and white. would also love recs that are translated literature in this time span!! thanks 🙂
