Also my last.
Never read a "cyberpunk" book before. I now will never read another one. Not even Neuromancer. I feel like if my first Star Wars movie would've been The Phantom Menace. I picked Snow Crash up at Goodwill before a vacation and was really excited. Just threw it down at page 112. Between 'crete and 'poon I just can't take it seriously. The only storyline I was mildly interested it was the robot dog that Y.T. helped and wonder if it makes another appearance. I could've bought a cup of coffee instead of this book.
Am I missing something?

You bought a book and didn’t like it. So what? It happens. If you think you’re still interested in cyberpunk as a concept, read a different book; if you don’t, don’t.
If a cup of coffee is more important than trying something which you have a chance of not liking then maybe you should stick to coffee and re-reading the same books over and over, but that’s kind of a sad way to approach life isn’t it? It feels like you want someone to justify this book to you, but why would anyone do that and what’s so terrible about trying a book and not enjoying it? Honestly, people on this sub are so fucking weird sometimes.
Snow Crash is partly satire of the Cyberpunk genre and it’s tropes. As someone unfamiliar with those tropes, it’s understandable that it didn’t stick. I wouldn’t write off the genre as a whole because of it, but if you don’t enjoy it then that’s that.
you also could have gone to your public library and gotten it for free and still got your cup of coffee
what a weird way to live
Snow Crash is a bit of a rough introduction into cyberpunk. It’s partly satire of the genre. I mean, the main character is named Akihiro “Hiro” Protagonist. It’s essentially a nicholas cage movie version of cyberpunk in a lot of ways. Still a good book, and one of my favorites, but it’s probably not a great starting point.
I’d go with other classic cyberpunk books. There’s also some modern ones that work pretty well. Altered Carbon is a solid book, and it’s very different from the netflix adaption.
Yeah. I thought it was great.
