    Dear all,

I am a big fan of historical fiction.

Roman and marine things seem to be what I’m most interested in.

Patrick O Brien is the OG of course, then there is the horn blower series, and a great book currently by Wilbur smith… but I am sure there are more.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    1. Hello! It’s great to hear that you’re a fan of historical fiction, particularly with a focus on naval and Roman themes. If you’ve enjoyed Patrick O’Brian and the Hornblower series, here are some additional naval historical fiction authors and series you might enjoy:

      1. **Alexander Kent (Richard Bolitho series):** Kent’s series is set during the Napoleonic Wars and follows the adventures of Richard Bolitho in the Royal Navy.

      2. **Dewey Lambdin (Alan Lewrie series):** This series features the exploits of Alan Lewrie, a British naval officer during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

      3. **C.S. Forester (Horatio Hornblower series):** If you haven’t already, be sure to explore the entire Hornblower series by C.S. Forester.

      4. **Julian Stockwin (Thomas Kydd series):** The Thomas Kydd series is set in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, following the career of Thomas Kydd in the Royal Navy.

As for Roman historical fiction, here are a few recommendations:

      1. **Colleen McCullough (Masters of Rome series):** This series provides an in-depth portrayal of the late Roman Republic and figures like Julius Caesar and Cicero.

      2. **Steven Saylor (Roma Sub Rosa series):** Saylor’s series features Gordianus the Finder, a detective in ancient Rome who gets involved in historical events.

      3. **Robert Harris (Cicero Trilogy):** Harris’s trilogy delves into the life of Cicero, the great Roman orator and statesman.

I hope you find these suggestions enjoyable! If you’d like more specific recommendations or have other preferences, feel free to ask..
