i've recently picked up reading for pleasure again after a long break due to burnout from reading in college. the bell jar was the first novel i have enjoyed in so long. i couldn't put it down.

im enjoying stories with female protagonists, especially those written by women. i enjoy darker themes/mental health focused. i also prefer a bit of realism. im trying to read "im thinking of ending things" but not enjoying it as much as i hoped. i was curious about "a little life" but read some pretty bad reviews of it and am kind of turned off to that one. im also curious about "my year of rest and relaxation".

i've missed out on reading a lot of classics. im curious about jane eyre, but i tend to struggle with books set in those time periods. i liked the crucible, but books set in the 1800s or before can be difficult for me to follow. i hope one day i get to a place where i can enjoy those more and not just be confused the whole time lol…

i also have an interest in the beat generation and writers in the 1960s-1980s in general. but am definitely open to whatever!

let me know what else i should read, thanks! : )
