People on the edges?

I am currently reading de Leon’s “Soldiers and Kings” and it got me wondering: are there other nonfiction books on groups or individuals that society tends to shy away from or look down on? I’m not sure how to narrow that down, (anthropology? sociology?) but I am hoping some titles that give a glimpse into the lives of the people or groups some people might shun come to your mind. Any help is so appreciated!
