I go to amazon and it gives me only algorithm vomit, can't even select a genre. I go to goodreads and it only gives me lists, most of which start with Harry Potter and end with 1984 if I so much as glance at the Scifi/Fantasy tags. I go to browsebooks and it gives me 8 random books per genre per page (and no, you can't narrow it down with tags like clones or dragons or whatever).

Am I crazy? Am I missing some obvious tool? Am I stupid? If I want to search for video games or movies there's a plethora of easily organized sites, but when it comes to books, suddenly I'm playing find the needle in a haystack.

And it can't just be a library size issue either. Sites like royalroad have tens of thousands of webserials all easily organized by genre, tags, and criteria like 'recently updated' all at the same time. I'm not asking for all books in existence, just that the books they do have on site be organized in a useful way.

Just what is going on with trying to browse regular old published books?
