Hi all. Goodreads has recently suggested a reading challenge encompassing a book from each American state.

I'm Australian, and thought this would be a really good way to get a feel for the different states.
Unfortunately I've read (or dnf ed) 10 books from this list. Not necessarily because the book was bad, but most of them gave me no sense of life (either past or present) in that state.
There were a couple of exceptions, like Demon Copperhead. (Virginia) and Lone Women (Montana).

I'd like to ask redditors for recommendations that depict THEIR state. The author does not necessarily have to come from that state, but I'm looking for books that give me a feel for life in your state, either positive or negative, present day or historically.

    Thanks everyone!
