I very much enjoyed A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth and was wondering if anyone could recommend more books by Indian authors set in India.

I loved Seth’s complex, interwoven stories and many characters and I was fascinated by the glimpse into a particular Indian subculture in, I think, the 1950s.

(India is massive, I know, with so many cultures and such a long history)

But yes, I liked the complicated social drama that comes up around marriage and family relationships.

Arranged marriage seems like it could give that but that isn’t a necessary detail.

Does anyone have anything they liked?

    Thank you!

    1. For complicated family relationships and love affairs (No arranged marriage) in South Asia, I would like to recommend [Kartography](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/290384.Kartography) by Kamila Shamsie. It takes place in Karachi, Pakistan, but Partition is woven into the story, with a number of flashbacks taking place in India before Partition or during that time.).
