Middle grade is my favorite demographic to read, and I especially appreciate the way certain books deal with hard subjects in a way that works for kids but doesn't talk down to them, either. I especially like books written in verse or set in far-away countries (for reference, I live in the USA). To clarify my request, I'll list some of the books I really like, along with their subject matter:
My Life With the Liars by Caela Carter (Cults)
Forever, Or a Long, Long Time by the same as above (Foster care)
Inside Out and Back Again by Thanha Lai (War, becoming a refugee, racism)
One Half From the East by Nadia Hashimi (Sexism, gender roles, gender identity, bacha posh)
No Place Like Home by James Bird (Homelessness, racism, indigenous struggles)
Thank you!
