Took the rec from someone on here giving suggestions for dark academia with the caveat that they didn’t care for the book, but many disagreed with his belief.
I was entertained to the end but I had major issues with the book. First of all… I didn’t hate Richard enough to understand the actions. I hate violent men the way everyone hates violent men… but why did he all of a sudden behave in this way? I needed more of a back story on all of their friendship. Second of all- Oliver talks about the college as a cult and warping their beliefs. Besides the one intense class we are with Gwendolyn giving their strengths and weaknesses- ok? Like- I needed more of a background on the school and how the students become the way they are. I needed more and more background- more story before the turn of events! And lastly- I was bored with all the Shakespeare quoting. I don’t know what was being said, just give me the action in between the lines.
I agree- just a The Secret History rip off… but I was primed to be against their murdered. I was not primed to hate or understand this one, the motives just didn’t match up or make any sense.
Loved the queer story line- would’ve loved James and Oliver to have more.
