I have read some Robinson Crusoe and found tht a more easier read than Moll Flanders, even when they’re from same author.

idk what it is, but I would often find myself dealing with paragraphs with no dialogue and if I lose attention for one moment and then ended up in a different paragraph, suddenly something happened tht I didn’t get to read because I lost track.

i feel like you really have to read word for word to not miss what happened because sometimes the writer would tell something important happened but there would be no dialogue.

The plot imo is fine so far but it definitely needs some mental work.

    1. I agree with you! Novels were still pretty new when these were published and I think they were still working out what to do. I really enjoyed A journal of the plague year, but possibly because I read it just after La Peste/the Plague by Camus. Apparently Camis used it as a source book, because when Defoe was writing it, he was able to interview people who had survived the plague in London

I loved Moll Flanders the first time I read it. I recently tried to reread it and couldn’t finish it. Maybe because my attention span is worse now? Maybe it was a moment in time thing?

    3. …this is funny… I don’t like Robinson Crusoe at all, but I loved Moll Flanders. Come to think of it, you may be right about Crusoe being an easier read… I just always DNF because it gets boring and pointless and I can’t bring myself to care about the MC. That didn’t really happen with Moll. And you know, sometimes when you read a book and then wait a while and read it again, it makes a lot more sense the second time. Something to think about, anyway…

    4. Shame, I like Moll, she gets up to so much mischief with a straight face. There’s no dialogue because the whole thing is her memoir of her life so it would be strange if there were any as a general rule. The book is her talking to you.
