That one hit me hard. Especially as, at the time, his condition was incurable.
He was a solid complex character (and yes, I know Doc Holliday was a real person, but the way he was written still made him leap off the page). Something like April Fool's Day by Bryce Courtenay is what I'm after (only in fiction form).
I've also enjoyed the Shardlake books by CJ Sansom.
Please no Littlest Cancer Patient/inspiration porn type stuff. Please no psychological thrillers, either.
