Hello! I'm searching for a book for a relative. They describe it as "one of those airport books from the early 2000s" and the author possibly has a J name. They're VERY certain the name of the author is similar to Robert Jordan, but isn't. Here is their plot description:
It's about a group of people living through a technological apocalypse. There was a girl that had converted her consciousness to a horde of nanobots right before the grid collapsed due to war and the main guy is a historical reenactor that has a fully functional town/village that becomes the basis for the survivor's society. the diversion of power from the civilian sector to the military is what caused the collapse of the technology as humans had reached a level of advancement where they can be whatever they want, from an dragon to a horde of nanites.
