That's probably a strange title, but I finally read Goodbye to Berlin (which is what inspired Cabaret). I really liked the fact that it showed the end of the golden days of Weimar (like the roaring twenties, it's kind of shown to be glamorous) but it shows how Berlin was disintegrating and the gritty underbelly of what was happening during that time.
I'm planning to read more of the author's books, but I just wanted to know if there is any other books similar to that idea. It doesn't have to be the same time period, but I'm not looking for any hard sci-fi or fantasy.
