Sorry for your loss
Samantha Irby’s essay books are great to read when you need to just laugh or be distracted. Meaty and We are Never Meeting In Real Life are great.

H is for Hawk is the author’s channeling of their grief for their father who died relatively young by bonding and training a goshawk, sharing the complex nature of that relationship and the history of hawking and falconry. A fascinating mediation on grief and the natural world.

My condolences.
You might be ready for this book now, or you might want to wait a bit, but Grief is a thing with Feathers by Max Porter is an excellent little book on bereavement, and helped me with my own perspectives on these things.

If you’re looking for a good book with some humor, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal, by Christopher Moore.
