I am a Southern Gothic junky. I prefer contemporary authors, but the setting can be historical! I like easy reads and I like actual literature, but right now I’m mostly down for easy. I’ve read a lot of books that take place in the American South, I just love the setting. Extra points if it’s Louisiana (I’m half Cajun, affectionately trapped in NE). I prefer horror and thrillers, but I’m always down for a good story. I prefer female protagonists, but I’m not going to pass up an excellent read in the name of discrimination.

I just purchased ‘Summer Sons’ by Mandelo. Just finished ‘The Little Friend’ by Tartt. But some other others I’ve read: Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, Gillian Flynn, Julia Heaberlin, Delia Owens, Karin Slaughter, Stacy Willingham, Grady Hendrix, Debbie Herbert, Flannery O’Connor, T. Kingfisher, Michael McDowell, Barbara Kingslover, William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Rebecca Wells, Kate Chopin (some great authors, some fun/mindless reads; I’m def not a snob).

Other authors I enjoy that aren’t Southern-esque but might give a bit more feel of what I like: Simone St. James, Rachel Harrison, Otessa Moshfegh, Riley Sager, Deborah Harkness, Francesca Lia Block, Joan Didion, Patricia Briggs, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Caroline Kepnes, Maggie Steifvater, Holly Black, Nova Ren Suma, Edgar Allen Poe, Washington Irving, Donna Tartt, (some) Victoria Schwab, (some) Leigh Bardugo, Stephen Graham Jones, Paul Tremblay, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, Augusten Burroughs.

Thanks ahead of time (: hope this gets some good recs!
