Hi there. Used to be an extremely avid reader as a kid and I am slowly easing back into things as an adult. I am however having trouble finding books I really enjoy. If anyone has recs based off some favorites in the past that would be great. Bonus points if recs are 500+ pages. I’m really sick of the 300 page romance books.
As a kid always enjoyed anything that felt “real”.
Fav book was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I was also really into
-Divergent series
-Hunger Games
-Timekeeper
-light romance books
-books about hard times usually that had triggers
-Harry Potter
-twilight series
-I read just about anything except for extreme mystery and hardcore fantasy.
As an adult I have not really enjoyed fantasy books much. I’m not into prince and princess, witch wizard, I don’t know I guess anything that doesn’t seem very “believable”. I just can’t do high levels of fantasy. I also am not huge on books set in the past unless they’re pretty gripping.
Lately I’ve been reading a lot of romance which I don’t mind. I still really prefer books with possible triggers. Lately I’ve enjoyed:
-all Freida McFadden
-the addicted series
-If you Tell
-books by Kathleen Glasgow
-the way I used to be
I guess my main preference is books that have a realistic struggle behind them. I really had a hard time as a kid and young adult so they’re therapeutic to me. I also really enjoy books where I can really put myself in other people’s shoes which is probably why I have a hard time with fantasy and pieces set in pre 2000’s.
