*Plausible Denial* by Mark Lane. Author lays out his argument that the CIA killed JFK. You don’t have to agree with his conclusions to think WTF! about what the CIA gets away with.

Spectacle, the story of Ota Benga , the “Pygmy in the zoo” who was displayed in the monkey house at the Bronx zoo in the early 1900s

A recent one would be The Wager by David Grann. Cannot believe people actually voluntarily used to go on sea voyages in that era. Life in the 18th century must have particularly dire for the average inhabitant so as to result in seamen committing themselves to unimaginable suffering and a very high probability of death for the small chance of a loot.

The Urantia Book. It was not written by humans. It was written by celestial beings (not aliens and not channeled, as many who haven’t read it often claim). If approached with humility and an open mind, it will definitely make you say WTF.
I’ve read it 3 times and it still blows my mind.

Honestly, most of them because real life is just nuts sometimes.
However, my go-to specific example is The Radium Girls by Kate Moore.
My jaw dropped by like…the tenth page and it never really stopped.
