I’ve been on a dystopian kick for a while now and I’m looking for new books to add to my list. Specifically looking for something really thought-provoking and tonally bleak. Some that I’ve read recently and enjoyed include I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman, the Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, the Road by Cormac McCarthy, the Wall by Marlen Haushofer, and the Handmaid’s Tale. Any suggestions for me?

Children of Men by P.D. James.
Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel
The Fifth Season by N.K Jemisin
**The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey** – A unique take on the zombie apocalypse genre, this novel explores a world where a fungal infection turns people into zombie-like creatures, and a young girl holds the key to humanity’s survival.
Wanderers by Chuck Wendig
How High We Go In The Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu
Never let me go is not so much post apocalyptic as is dystopian but I’m not sure any book has gutted me as much as that one and I’ve read McCarthy. That damn one stuck with me.
The Lone City series by Amy Ewing (The Jewel, The White Rose, The Black Key) combines The Selection with The Handmaid’s Tale.
