So I've just read 99% of a book that was mostly enjoyable. Not brilliant, but funny and quite heartfelt. But the last 50 or so pages were just naval-gazing self-indulgent twaddle. With three and a half pages to go it's gone on my DNF pile because I didn't want to devote another couple of minutes of my life to it.
So I'm looking for the opposite! Stuff that doesn't peter out towards the end. It doesn't necessarily need to be last minute shock reveals, but something that keeps you engaged to the very last word.
Preferred genres atm are speculative fiction, social commentary/satire, historical fiction—but I'll give most things a go.
