Any recommendations for fantasy with a lot of world building? (I know a lot of my likes are Japanese but open to anything that fits!) Low Romance preferably.
Portal fantasy liked: Ascendance of a Bookworm, Wizard of Oz, Howl’s Moving Castle
General fantasy liked: Dragonlance, Arcangels of Samaria
I do like time travel/Groundhog Day loops (for example Erased) and game lit/progression fantasy (ie Log Horizon).
I feel like I tend towards portal fantasy most often tho.
(I’ve read some of Tearmoon Empire and Accomplishments of a Duke’s Daughter and disliked both of them, if that helps any)

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang is pretty dark but very low romance and great world building and magic system
If you’re open to middle grade fantasy, I recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend! It’s my favorite series (even at 28 years old), and it’s portal fantasy with really excellent world building and little to no romance.
The School For Good and Evil series by Soman Chainani
Also I haven’t read this yet but A Venom Dark and Sweet by Judy I Lin
