I really love books that focus more on found family tropes and platonic relationships over romantic ones. I’ve already read Six of Crows but it wasn’t really my cup of tea for some reason.

If you know any good ones, please do suggest them to me! I don’t mind more mature themes at all so I’m open to pretty much anything.

    1. Might not be what you’re looking for lol- but project Hail Mary really surprised me. I didn’t expect it to be a story about two best buds 😭 but it was so lovely.

    2. multifocal-a-tach on

Tana French’s mystery writing has a surprising amount of it – *In The Woods* and *The Likeness*, to start. Not… necessarily with happy endings (bit of a grim approach overall), but l haven’t read much that does platonic/found family relationships better. Does also have some romantic plotlines, but they don’t overshadow the platonic relationships (and are less plot-relevant).

    3. A Psalm for the Wild-Built, and actually everything by Becky Chambers – a relationship of sorts starts in The Long Way to Small, Angry Planet, but really the thing there is that they have a really nice talk about the ways they are very different & what that might look like if they got together, not a romance plot. Lots of found family in all her books though, and well-done

    4. I dont like romance so I enjoyed books like The Cradle Series by Will Wight but one set of friends do become a couple but its not a focus of the books. Its more like we are couple now lets train and fight some more. The Captain (book 1 of The Last Horizon) by the same author doesn’t have a couple in it and seems to be building towards a found family thing.
