Welcome to our weekly recommendation thread! A few years ago now the mod team decided to condense the many “suggest some books” threads into one big mega-thread, in order to consolidate the subreddit and diversify the front page a little. Since then, we have removed suggestion threads and directed their posters to this thread instead. This tradition continues, so let’s jump right in!

    **The Rules**

    * Every comment in reply to this self-post must be a request for suggestions.

    * All suggestions made in this thread must be direct replies to other people’s requests. Do not post suggestions in reply to this self-post.

    * All unrelated comments will be deleted in the interest of cleanliness.

**How to get the best recommendations**

The most successful recommendation requests include a description of the kind of book being sought. This might be a particular kind of protagonist, setting, plot, atmosphere, theme, or subject matter. You may be looking for something similar to another book (or film, TV show, game, etc), and examples are great! Just be sure to explain *what* you liked about them too. Other helpful things to think about are genre, length and reading level.

    ____

All Weekly Recommendation Threads are linked below the header throughout the week to guarantee that this thread remains active day-to-day. For those bursting with books that you are hungry to suggest, we’ve set the suggested sort to new; you may need to set this manually if your app or settings ignores suggested sort.

If this thread has not slaked your desire for tasty book suggestions, we propose that you head on over to the aptly named subreddit /r/suggestmeabook.

    1. Looking to start adding more readings to my routine. Could anyone recommend me a book that would help me be in peace with myself and not being to hard for not achieving great things or seeking further in life or career wise?

    2. Loved reading through lord of the rings, and a few others like man in the high castle, 1984 and war of the worlds recently. And currently on book 5 of Dune, but God damn do I need a break from dune.

Any recommendations for what to read next? I guess looking for the classics if fantasy, sci-fi or like the ones listed above.

    3. does anyone have any well written fiction recs??

hi all! i’m an english student at uni and am looking for something to break up the intense classical literature im having to read for my studies.

what i’m looking for is well written and engrossing fiction, not trashy romances or typical booktok recs.

for reference, a few of my favourite books that id like something similar to is Normal People by Sally Rooney, Brooklyn by Colm Toibin, Atonement by Ian McEwan

any recommendations would be so greatly appreciated my fellow book lovers!!!📚🩷✨

Are there any assistive apps to help
dyslexics read physical books? I find it is much easier to read ebooks rather than paperbacks. I like being able to change the font, take notes, and most importantly lookup definitions and pronunciations of words that I do not know with a simple touch of a word. That last bit is critical to me. Are there any apps that work as reading companions for physical books? It would be great to have a single app that can capture text, take notes, and perform live OCR so I can quickly lookup words without having to type them into a dictionary? Even better would be the ability to manipulate the text size and font (I love OpenDyslexic).

Hi there! I’m a recent graduate and I need to learn more about personal finance. I’m not looking for David Ramsey “have money to make money” junk. I am starting pretty much from square one. I’d like to invest and learn more about investing, but I am not quite there yet. Would love to know people’s thoughts!

I want something that has a story similar to Amnesia the Dark Descent, between Dracula or House of Leaves I’m looking more towards Dracula, like scary sci fi taken to the existential. Doesn’t have to be sci fi but just like…I just really enjoyed the concept of the Amnesia story with regard to torture (minus the amnesia lol). I’ve already read I Am Legend which is also not exactly what I’m looking for.

    7. I’m looking for a book that gives “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” vibes. Something funny, crude, and satirical.

I’m looking for some non-fiction books.

      Negotiation books for work purposes.
Debating books are for competitive purposes.

    9. Do you recommend reading “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt to a non-native English speaker? I’m a B2 level in English and want to read it in the original form as I have the chance, but not sure if it is too complicated or, on the opposite, easy to read.

looking for self-help books that aren’t repeating common sense over and over, 100 different ways. looking for something that digs into self.

    11. I’m looking for books or book series that are small town supernatural themed. Using TV for inspiration, think something like Twin Peaks or Haven or even the recent Nancy Drew TV show. I’d prefer female protagonists but that’s not a hard requirement.

      Any recommendations?

    12. I’m thinking I’m really into books where the narrator is a character in the story but not really the focus. Three very different books I can think of are The Little Prince, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Fisherman. Any other books like that?
