About my third time through the Underland Chronicles, the only series I’ve bothered to read coming into my twenties. I’ve felt a longing for a specific sort of story, one that doesn’t end as unsatisfactorily as Gregor’s did for me.

I like the idea of an inexperienced or unknowing MC that stumbles into a new world. They eventually get so ensnared with it they live a sort of second life, unless it inadvertently digs its’ claws into their original life as well. Coming to terms with the choices they’re going to have to make and the people they’re inevitably going to or have lost. By the end (at least this is where it happens chronologically in TUC) the MC has become for better or worse, a part of this world and has to choose between a place they don’t know they can fully return to and a place that has slowly become just as much of a home.

That’s probably asking a lot, but it’s something I can’t help but come back to every couple of years with the Underland Chronicles, so some less kid friendly material would be appreciated.
