I am looking for outside views of Europe, from authors who are of non-western background (so no non-indigenous US or canadian, australian, … authors please – not because they aren’t good writers, but because their works on this subject are manifold and easily found).
Europeans write A LOT about other continents and countries, so I am looking for the reverse – the cultural outsider’s perspective on Europe.
This can be one country in particular that is in focus (think Abdulrazak Gurnah, By the Sea), or Europe itself (whatever that is then made out to be – that is precisely what I am interested in), contemporary or older, long or short (Mori Ogai, „The Dancing Girl“).
There MUST be such works, certainly?
(I will also happily take suggestions for works in languages other than English, as I reckon a lack of translation might be a compounding factor in why I have such a hard time finding any).
Thank you!
