**A Thousand Steps into Night** by Traci Chee has a lovely friendship and no romance.
**Raybearer** by Jordan Ifueko feels very special to me in this regard – it does have a romance subplot but it depicts a great variety of strong emotional bonds, both romantic and non-romantic, and treats them all as equally important.
**Furthermore** and **Whichwood** by Tahereh Mafi are underrated in my opinion. *Furthermore* may be more middle grade, *Whichwood* is classic YA. It can be read without having read *Furthermore* first
*. *Daughter of the Deep** by Rick Riordan is an adventure story, maybe leaning a bit more towards sci-fi than fantasy, that centers around an awesome friend group.
**Pet** by Akwaeke Emezi is based on a truly original concept (which is not easy to do in YA) and it’s all about helping a friend.
