I can read and enjoy Stephen King books easily, but when I try to get out of that comfort zone I either find the books boring, pretentious or all of the above. For instance, I recently read halfway through Biography of X and enjoyed the fake history of the US bits more than the bits about X. I just started The Unbearable Lightness of Being and am just not feeling that either. I've only recently gotten back into reading after getting sober so maybe my brain's not ready for anything too complex, but I really enjoy the escape of reading and diving into a new world and want to keep up the hobby. I have my eye on Shadow of the Wind next, but no idea if I'll end up liking that either. If anyone can recommend something or someone more accessible for a newbie like me I'd really appreciate it.
