Nothing by Stephen King please. Nothing against him, I just find horror lit recs to be a bit oversaturated by his work.
I want a horror book that will actually have me clenching my kindle and needing to put it down. I find a lot of horror novels are simply disturbing or trippy, but I’m wondering if there’s anything out there that actually had you closing doors, double checking the locks, and sleeping with a light on lol
What horror books actually scared you?

The Exorcist. Scared the shit out of me at about age 21.
House of Leaves got under my skin. My roommate was out at a diner when I finished reading it in the middle of the night and I called him up and showed up there because I didn’t want to be home alone.
The Deep by Nick Cutter and also The Troop by Nick Cutter
The Ruins yikesss
Revival is the only King book that scared me (one of my top 5 favorite writers, I’m just not usually scared by books/movies). I was deeply bothered by Wanderers by Chuck Wendig and had to put it down for a while.
