I always get my dad books for holidays but I'm struggling with ideas for Father's Day this year.

He's been on a sci fi kick lately and loved Three Body Problem, Project Hail Mary and Children of Time. He's already read most of the sci-fi classics so does anyone have any more recent suggestions that are good?

I also gifted him Demon Copperhead for Christmas and he really enjoyed that.

Other authors he's enjoyed: George Saunders, Tom Robbins, Flann O'Brien, Neil Gaiman

hmmm. because you mentioned Daemon Copperhead – maybe Percival Everett‘s „James“? It’s a retelling of Huckleberry Finn, came out this year, is highly regarded and also was, for me. a good read.

As an old guy and father please do me a favor. Please write a nice Father’s Day note, along with the date and your signature, on the inside cover of the book. Your Dad will read the book and it will go on the shelf, but it will be your words that will make him think of you each time he sees the book.

Sure, the title matters. You don’t want to give him a bad read. But it’s the sentiment that really counts. Don’t think you’re ruining the book by writing in it. Quite the opposite, you’re improving it.
