I have challenged myself to read a book set in every decade from 480s BC (battle of Thermopylae) up to the present day, however only really need suggestions pre 1800s. My Rules are as follows:

Books can count towards multiple decades if their story spans more than one decade.

Non fiction is fine but need to give detailed account of events in the given decade. Books spanning hundreds of years of history are cheating.

Biographies and Autobiographies are acceptable.

If a book mentions no year or historical events and there is no reason to assume it is set in the past/future it is fine to assume it is set in the decade written e.g. I assume pride and prejudice is set in 1810s.
I am doing this challenge on StoryGraph so will add all suggestions to the challenge even if I don’t read them. Hopefully it can act as a reference for those interested in history.
