I LOVE gothic novels. Especially this time of year! My fave show is Bly Manor and I’m chasing that high. I’ve read:

    Rebecca
    The Haunting of Hill House
    Mexican Gothic
    The Turn of the Key
    The Family Upstairs
    The Death of Mrs. Westaway
We Have Always Lived in the Castle

    Any other suggestions?

    1. The first thing that comes to mind is Jane Eyre, if you haven’t read that yet- it has mystery elements in it, but I guess I wouldn’t consider it a thriller though… but I’d put it on your list anyway, you’ll probably like it!

I love Bly Manor. Try *A House with Good Bones* by T. Kingfisher, it does heavily involve a garden!

    3. Did you read Jane Eyre yet? It’s my favorite book (Rebecca is a close second) so I always recommend it! It’s gothic and has exactly the type of setting you’re looking for!

The Bone Orchard by Sara Mueller. And not just because I went to college with her.

Gothic, check. Garden, check. Strange residences, check. Enjoy!

    5. **Silence for the Dead**

      By: Simone St. James

      **Publisher’s summary**

**“Portis House emerged from the fog as we approached, showing itself slowly as a long, low shadow….”**

In 1919, Kitty Weekes, pretty, resourceful, and on the run, falsifies her background to obtain a nursing position at Portis House, a remote hospital for soldiers left shell-shocked by the horrors of the Great War. Hiding the shame of their mental instability in what was once a magnificent private estate, the patients suffer from nervous attacks and tormenting dreams. But something more is going on at Portis House—its plaster is crumbling, its plumbing makes eerie noises, and strange breaths of cold waft through the empty rooms. It’s known that the former occupants left abruptly, but where did they go? And why do the patients all seem to share the same nightmare, one so horrific that they dare not speak of it?

Kitty finds a dangerous ally in Jack Yates, an inmate who may be a war hero, a madman… or maybe both. But even as Kitty and Jack create a secret, intimate alliance to uncover the truth, disturbing revelations suggest the presence of powerful spectral forces. And when a medical catastrophe leaves them even more isolated, they must battle the menace on their own, caught in the heart of a mystery that could destroy them both.

    6. You’ve read almost all the books I came to recommend….would only add {{Jane Eyre}} and one on my to-read list, {{Dragonwick}}.

There’s also {{Wakenhyrst}} but I thought it was so bad that I couldn’t finish it, maybe you’ll have better luck.

Since you liked Bly Manor, you can try {{The Turn of the Screw}}, but I hope you really, *really* love punctuation.

Daisy Darker – it’s a house surrounded by water so no garden. But the book was very haunting to me

Home before Dark (and basically anything Riley Sager fits the bill)

The Paris Apartment (its a apartment complex instead of a single house but gave me those kinds of vibes)

      The Family Game

Not in the genre but I’ll suggest anyways – The House in the Cerulean Sea (more fantasy than thriller but it has the mysterious house on an island aspect and has a fantastic garden)

You should check out anything by Kate Morton! The Forgotten Garden would be an excellent place to start. Her books always have some mansion and a mystery involving family secrets. They’re not thrillers but her writing is magical and worth checking out.
