Hey all, I've been thinking of this for quite some time now, and have lot of ideas to create a podcast with another nurse or healthcare worker reviewing books that touch on medical topics! I especially love historical fiction and researching medicine from different time periods and cultures, with a focus on female protagonist as healers/nurses/doctors/etc.
A little about me: I'm a med-surg oncology nurse in New York State, United States, with a lot of interests but living a pretty low-key life. I am very passionate about mental health care, advocating for human rights and dignity, and also my cat. Give me a beer and a soapbox and I'll list off every reason why droids in the Star Wars universe have souls.
Topics we could explore:
- How medicine was shaped by religion and the patriarchy
- Natural/herbal medicine
- Pseudoscience
- How injuries/ailments of the past might be managed today
- Realistic and not-so-realistic depictions of health care in literature
- Healthcare ethics
