Going to be vacationing in Hawaii soon and want to explore its culture and history. Please recommend fiction and nonfiction, about Hawaii or involving the islands or Hawaiians, pre-statehood or modern. Thanks!!
Hawaii by John Michener. Historical fiction. It starts at the geological birth of the islands and goes forward through its history from there.
It is a bit of a heavy read though. I only read half of it which was at the point when the missionary pilgrims, from US mainland, were making some waves with the native Hawaiians.
