I watched the 2002 Ring with my girlfriend a while ago and after finding out it was adapted from a book, I decided to read it.

I enjoyed the 1st and 2nd book but the 3rd completely messed with me. Finding out that the universe of Ring was just a simulation being ran from a highly classified science project was crazy for me.

I quite enjoyed Ryuji even if he was quite strange. Though I’m confused by him for several reasons.
    1) he admits to raping a girl yet later on we are told by a girl he was dating that he is a virgin. It’s 1 thing to lie about your virginity but why make it about rape?
    2) he somehow ends up being Sadako’s right hand man so was he always connected to her somehow or did it just happen?

The book managed to answer some of my questions but I really want to know more about this character.

I found the 1st book to my favorite cause I enjoyed the journey between the main character and Ryuji (sorry I am bad with remembering names). What were your guys’ feelings and thoughts about the Ring Trilogy?

    1. I had the same reaction as you. I enjoyed book 1 most. 2 was just ok. 3 totally fucked me up! I remember putting the book down for a minute and just mouthing “what. The. Fuck.” with the biggest grin on my face. Loved that 3rd book ending. Loved how much of a mindfuck it was.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one.

    2. There is also a fourth book that was released at the time (Birthday), then two others released a decade later (S and Tide).

    3. I fucking hated loop so much I had so much anger in my body after finishing it. Book 2 was just so good and then that ending in book 3 just ruined it all for me. I like to pretend it doesn’t exist. It sucks cause I was looking forward to reading it so much and it was an utter disappointment. Book 1 and 2 are amazing though and I’ll always reread them!

    4. I loved both movies (Ring 2002 and the 1998 original) and had been thinking about reading the books for a long time. Your post convinced me to get them, so thank you!
