i'd like to find a book where the narrative addresses themes related to nostalgia or longing for an idealized past that is long gone, or wistfulness for an idealized vision of the future, and focuses on a protagonist who is fairly dissatisfied with their life. the plotline shouldn't revolve around this but i'd like it if it were a theme that is addressed.
bonus points if flashback scenes and memories from the past are interspersed in the narrative (like in "if we were villains" by m.l. rio or "station eleven" by emily st john Mandel) but this isn't necessary
