Please suggest me some fiction which has elements of the uncanny (Freudian), spectrality, ghostliness, etc. Even if a ghost is not present for sure, the ambiguity is welcome. I would love it if the books have some historical/political/ecological context but more importantly it should be psychologically rich.

I prefer speculative fiction but the kind which makes sudden/gradual creeping departures from everyday reality. I am also partial to good horror lit, grief horrors, etc, but I'm not limited to pure horror and can range towards speculative fiction with some eerie elements. For example, I loved Henry James's The turn of the screw, Jackson's Hill House, Atwood's dystopian novels, particularly elements which play with temporality and character depth and gives that uneasy feeling of familiarity/unfamiliarity, unhomeliness, but would love to read books that are not limited to England or the US. Although, any recommendations from the US/UK is welcome too.

I know it is a bit too specific may be. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you so much!
