I just finished Dark Matter which led me here. I’d recommend these from some books that I read in the last months:
His other book Recursion is in my opinion better in every way. There’s some romance in it but I don’t think it’s as prominent.
The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin is a very unromantic science fiction book I would say. The plot is not very similar to Dark Matter but it touches on similar themes.
Sea of Tranquillity by Emily St. John Mandel: not as much of a fan of this one myself but others love it and it fits your description. Although there’s some romance sprinkled throughout it, it’s not really the main drive of the characters
