I love reading and fantasy is probably my favorite genre. When I’m partway into a book or series, I can’t put it down. But the initial startup of getting immersed in a new book with a lot of depth can feel overwhelming sometimes. It’s a pretty common problem, especially for those with ADHD like me. I’m either 100% hooked and immersed, or I’m having to push myself to keep going at the start.

Do any of you have experience or advice with how you get past the initial “getting your bearings” phase of a long book? Experiencing and learning about a new world is a huge part of what I love about books, but I struggle with it sometimes before a story finds its stride.

Take breaks. take a break from the book and come back to it later. It’s better to read for 15 minutes and enjoy it than to force yourself to read for an hour and not remember anything.

    2. Depends what book you are talking about.

If you read Wheel Of Time -> Map + Wheel Of Time Compendium app.

If you read ASIOAF -> Map + ASIOAF wiki per chapter summary

Depending on the book you can also get help from read alongs.
