I want to read some more historical fiction books. I just recently read all quiet on the western front and I wish to read more books like it. I would prefer the historical situation set in the 20th century, but I’m open to anything! Also if you have any coming of age books recommendations like the perks of being a wallflower, please give me some!!

For something a bit different in the historical fiction side, I’d go with The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley. Gorgeously written, and a different setting which I always find interesting. Coming of age novels, I will always recommend Helena Fox. Her writing is beautiful and her debut really resonated with me!

Combine the two(historical fiction and coming of age) and you get Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

The poisonwood Bible by Kingsolver is truly amazing.

Also, half of a yellow sun by adichie

You might read the first book in the “Maisie Dobbs” series by Jacqueline Winspear. About half of the first book is her coming of age story. It’s a “female sleuth” series with a great protagonist and unique storylines and comfortable writing style that incorporates non-fiction elements that were happening at the time. It’s a great series but you’ll know after the first book if you want to continue

Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, excellent historical samurai epic adventure

    6. A couple with perspectives from other countries

‘The Coventry of water ‘and also ‘Cutting for Stone’ by Abraham Vergese were kind of coming of age and historical fiction from the 20th century were good. Different as they take part in India and Ethiopia

Half a Yellow stone about Nigeria and Biafra is a good story

Already mentioned but favorites of mine as well

Pachinko. A story about Korea and Japan.

The Century Trilogy about WWI, WW II thru the 1979’s was terrific

    7. As a youngster I remember being engrossed by historical fiction. Some books that weren’t the best technically haven’t remained with me: The Lute Player by Norah Lofts (the 3rs Crusade) and Bomber by Len Deighton (WWII) come to mind.
