So I want to find classic(preferably written in the 20th or 19th century) novels that showcase the lives of african americans. I’m not really looking for books that are too centered around civil rights movements, I just want to read a story written by an african american based on the lives that they lead in America.
Although I just heard about something called “slavery narratives” and I think that also picked my interest.
I’m sorry if what I’m asking for is not so clear, I just really don’t know anything about african american literature. In conclusion I guess I don’t mind if it’s fiction or nonfiction I just want it to be powerful and interesting, I am particularly interested on detailed accounts of the lives african americans lived a hundred or so years ago.
